Syria has been tried and tested the past ten years with an unwavering agenda of ailments in the package of a record-breaking civil war, and its attendant all-time humanitarian record crisis. Its citizens across the country have, however, stepped up to the challenge by doing that little bit extra to rebuild and restore daily life.
In cities and suburbs across the globe, community revitalization has been emerging from the flames. Youth have been observed constructing homes, schools, and stores from the remnants of damaged buildings reclaiming neighborhoods and housing returned displaced families.
Former industries have also helped revitalize economy and culture. Local craftsmen have started workshops with the aim of teaching the younger generation how to weave, create ceramics, etc., giving importance to culture and making a living. Such actions stabilize society and help find ways to survive in spite of problems round-the-clock.
Education is largely under the Syrians. Kids have been given makeshift schools where math, science, and literature are taught by kids in dim corridors. People got together to look for resources for kids to be able to enjoy schooling with a peaceful determination to gain knowledge and desire for peaceful living.
Psychological intervention comes into vogue with the societies learning to cope with trauma and mass loss. The psychologists and the community workers started working by using music, storytelling, and art in healing. These interventions recognized that healing is multifaceted and had a high degree of interrelatedness.
Females are entering to become leadership in people’s organisations. Women co-operative formations turn handicraft production and food production into a method of building resistance and autonomy. These trends have the effect of dismantling the patriarchal social order, providing room for women to participate actively in economic and social life.
There is Syrian culture of resilience in adversity. They resurface, re-made again, and give hope by becoming stronger with collective will power, an achievement to a higher level of hope and renewal. These are continuous processes that shape determination in constructing a sustainable future in adversity.
