From Byblos to Baalbek: Lebanon’s Enduring Legacy

LebanonFrom Byblos to Baalbek: Lebanon's Enduring Legacy

The compelling mixture of history, geology, and culture in Lebanon has enough evidences of the past and countryside landscape. Lebanon’s traces of the past and countryside landscape attract foreign travelers. Among the thousand-year-old traces of old port city town of Byblos and the gigantic remains of Baalbek which foreign tourists flocked to see, there is a piece of land that has everything that is Lebanon.

Byblos, Lebanon’s ancient and inhabited city, is one of the country’s doors to history. The city has promenades of beauty of columns of marbled loveliness to medieval fortresses, one of them tastefully preserved Crusader Castle standing. Its newly restored marina with wooden sailboats sketched in against glinting seafood and Lebanese local specialties piled over mezzes served out of interior-access restaurants which are reasonably priced.

Byblos hilltop of cobblestone-streets is best suited to support craft boutiques such as Lebanese ceramics and textiles to which the majority of tourists retain the country’s past arts in their memory. Phoenician, Roman, and Byzantine times of archaeological sites in and around the city remind them so. Good luck of all, Byblos is to be served as a study and immersion kind of tourist destination.

Internal pilgrimage, Baalbek symbolizes Roman architects’ and engineers’ engineering skill. It is famous for gigantic remains, i.e., Temple of Bacchus and Temple of Jupiter. The stone whose weight has been used while building it, i.e., 800 tons or more, says a lot about the amazing strength of ancient engineers.

Baalbek is also home to the Baalbek International Festival, a music festival and culture festival held each year in the ruins. It is significant culturally as an experience and archive of Lebanese cultural content based on foundation-dependent content and experiential learning.

Baalbeck and Byblos collectively present a living image of Lebanon’s history and heritage. Sea magic and knightly historic dance, a living chronicle of timelessness, characterize the nation. Lebanon’s heritage dares the coming generation, in terms of finding its timelessness in people walking over its ruins.
