Palawan offers dramatic limestone cliffs, turquoise lagoons, and world-class snorkeling that attract travelers from around the globe.
Boracay is served by two main airports: Caticlan (Godofredo P. Ramos) for the quickest access and Kalibo for more flight options with a longer land transfer. Arrivals at Caticlan require a short tricycle ride to the jetty and a 10-20 minute pump boat to Boracay Island, plus a small terminal fee at the port. Kalibo arrivals involve a 1.5-2 hour bus or van transfer to Caticlan before the short boat trip.
Flights connect Manila and Cebu with Puerto Princesa, El Nido (Lio), and Busuanga (Coron). Puerto Princesa serves as the main gateway for southern Palawan and is a good base for mainland tours such as the Underground River. El Nido has a smaller airport closer to northern attractions and cuts several hours of land travel. Coron’s Francisco B. Reyes Airport links directly to Coron town and nearby dive sites.
Most travelers moving between Boracay and Palawan route through Manila or Cebu, since direct commercial flights between Caticlan/Kalibo and Puerto Princesa or El Nido are limited. A typical itinerary runs Caticlan→Manila→Puerto Princesa or Caticlan→Manila→El Nido. Ferry options between islands are seasonal and slower; ferries from Coron to El Nido take roughly 3-4 hours depending on service and sea conditions.
Dry season between November and May offers the most reliable weather for island hopping and inter-island transfers. Book flights and island-hopping tours in advance during peak months, and carry cash for small vendors, terminal fees, and environmental fees (El Nido charges an environment fee and a municipal tourism fee applies in some towns). Travel time estimates: Caticlan to Manila 1 hour, Manila to Puerto Princesa 1.5 hours, Puerto Princesa to El Nido by land 4-5 hours, Coron to El Nido by fast boat about 3 hours.
Pack reef-safe sunscreen, light rain gear, and waterproof bags for electronics. Respect marine protected areas by avoiding touching coral and following local guides on no-go zones. Flight schedules can change with weather, so allow buffer days when planning connections between Boracay and Palawan to keep your itinerary flexible.
