India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized a combined 15.59 kg of amphetamine, cocaine, and heroin in three separate operations conducted on 29–30 September 2026, arresting five persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Amphetamine Bust in Madhya Pradesh
In the most dramatic of the three operations, DRI officers working alongside the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) intercepted a Mahindra Thar at the Ujjain–Dewas Toll Plaza in Madhya Pradesh on 30 September 2026. When signalled to stop, the driver broke through the barricade and fled. Officers gave chase for approximately 1.5 hours before halting the vehicle near Bicholi Mardana, Indore. A search uncovered 21 packets hidden inside the spare tyre mounted on the vehicle's rear door, containing 7.116 kg (gross) of a whitish-yellow crystalline substance. All three occupants were arrested and the vehicle was seized.
Cocaine Hidden in Chocolate Tubes at Hyderabad Airport
On 29 September 2026, DRI officers acting on specific intelligence intercepted an Indian passenger who had arrived from Doha at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. Examination of his cabin baggage revealed seven chocolate tubes that appeared heavier than their marked weight. Inside, officers found 207 light-yellow oval-shaped capsules concealed among the chocolates, containing a white powdery substance. The total cocaine recovered amounted to 4.9 kg (gross). The passenger was arrested under the NDPS Act.
Heroin Seized from Car-Pool Taxi Passenger in Punjab
Also on 29 September 2026, DRI officers conducting coordinated surveillance near Phillaur on the outskirts of Jalandhar, Punjab, identified a suspect travelling as a passenger in a rental car-pooling taxi. A personal search recovered three packets from a blue backpack on his lap, each containing two smaller packets. The substance tested positive for heroin, with a total of 3.574 kg recovered and seized. The individual was arrested under the NDPS Act.
The DRI stated that the three operations reflect its intelligence-led approach to detecting diverse trafficking routes and concealment methods, and that it remains committed to disrupting organised drug-trafficking networks across the country.
