Anak Krakatau Eruption Grounds Nearly 3,000 Flights
A sustained eruption at Anak Krakatau in early September 2026 sent ash up to 15,000 metres into the atmosphere, forcing the temporary closure of eight airports across Java and Sumatra. Nearly 3,000 flights were disrupted and ashfall reached Jakarta and parts of West Java before the most intense activity subsided on September 6.
