The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has issued a time-sensitive appeal for support to protect Afghanistan's 2027 wheat harvest, citing rising fertilizer prices that are making essential inputs inaccessible for many Afghan farmers ahead of a critical planting window.

The warning comes from the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. According to FAO, the cost of fertilizers has climbed to levels that place them beyond the financial reach of a significant portion of the country's farming population, raising concerns over the volume and viability of the upcoming harvest.

FAO has made available a media package — including photos and a video news release — alongside a formal call for assistance, signaling the urgency it attaches to the situation. Communications for the appeal are being handled by Giulia Ramadan El Sayed, Communications Specialist at the FAO Representation in Afghanistan.
